Most "save" things are spells - which can be countered with Counterspell. Later on the level 14 ability to use spell slots to reduce damage will help as well. The bladesinger will be able to fight in melee. Under the bladesong, you'll have decent AC and it'll be hard to keep you from concentrating. You're not going to be as good a fighter as a fighter, but you'll be a much better fighter than most wizards, and a better wizard than an eldritch knight or arcane trickster.
