You still have plenty of time to get there. You can get taxied but it won't mark the nodes as completed when you can't reach them yet.
It's supposed to unlock. That's a feature of the daily alerts too, they're meant to allow you to slowly unlock steel path without having to go through the regular star chart order. Having someone taxi you to a node works 50/50. The most reliable way I've noticed are relics. They work like 90% of the time.

Do the WITW quest, clear the nodes, then you can do SP/Arbi again. If they add new nodes before you unlock Steel Path, you need to do those first.
